Timo Werner won't leave RB Leipzig for less than his release clause, confirms club chief

Timo Werner will not be allowed to leave for a fee below his release clause, RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has confirmed.
Liverpool don't want to trigger Timo Werner's release clause of around €55 million before it expires on June 15 due to the financial implications caused by the coronavirus pandemic, according to Sport Bild.

The Premier League side remain keen on Werner, and while the interest is understood to be mutual, RB Leipzig will not be prepared to let the striker go for less than his release clause if 'The Reds' would try to negotiate the price down.

"If it should come to that, and we get the decision back in our hands, then we are deeply relaxed. Timo still has a three-year contract with us," RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintlaff told Sport Bild and added:

"It won't get any cheaper. We don't want to sell a player below a fixed price if he has more than one year left on his contract.

"Generally, we always have to ask ourselves the question, 'Can I replace a player with equal value if I sell him for less than a previously fixed price?"

Werner signed a new contract with Leipzig back in August, committing himself to 'Die Roten Bullen' until 2023.
