Report: Schalke to part company with several players and sign a new goalkeeper

Schalke 04 are expected to make major changes to their squad this summer.
Daniel Caligiuri, Benjamin Stambouli, Jonjoe Kenny and Jean-Clair Todibo are among the players expected to leave Schalke 04 this summer.

According to Sky Germany, 'The Royal Blues' aren't planning to extend the expiring contracts of Caligiuri and Stambouli.

Kenny and Todibo, who are on loan from Everton and FC Barcelona until the end of the season, are set to return to their parent clubs.

Augsburg loanee Michael Gregoritsch will probably not be joining the club on a permanent deal either, according to Sport Bild, who also mentions Guido Burgstaller as a player heading for the exit.

Sebastian Rudy and Nabil Bentaleb, who are currently on loan at Hoffenheim and Newcastle respectively, should both leave as well.

As for new arrivals, Sky and Sport Bild both claims that Schalke plan to bring in a goalkeeper after Markus Schubert has failed to establish himself as the club's first-choice option in the second half of the season.

According to Sport Bild, Schalke are interested in Sven Ulreich from Bayern München and Mark Flekken from Freiburg, who are currently playing second fiddle at their respective clubs.

Schalke coach David Wagner originally wanted to let Markus Schubert play until the end of the season at the expense of Alexander Nübel, who will be joining Bayern München this summer. But following a string of underwhelming performances from Schubert, Nübel was back in goal for Saturday's game against Werder Bremen.

Ralf Fährmann should return from his loan spell to compete for the number-one spot with the new signing while Schubert is likely to be sent out on loan for the 2020/21 season.
