Thomas Müller clarifies comments about Bayern's transfer policy

Thomas Müller feels his comments about Bayern München's transfer activity were misunderstood.
Thomas Müller caused a few raised eyebrows after Bayern München's 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the DFB-Pokal earlier this week when he seemed to question the club's transfer activity.

The 30-year-old said "it's a bit paradoxical" that Bayern are being linked with big-money moves for players such as Bayer Leverkusen's Kai Havertz while the squad simultaneously take pay cuts to help the club amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Müller's comments resulted in criticism from the club's sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, who has since told the Bayern star that his comments were out of order.

In a video posted on social media, Müller has now tried to explain himself, claiming that his statements were misinterpreted.

"At FC Bayern, there is no internal dispute over the waiver of salaries with regard to possible transfers in summer. We have waived our salary for completely different reasons, namely for our employees," Müller said.

"Personally, I want the best possible squad for the next season. I have big goals. I want to win the Champions League, I want us to attack properly and continue the run we're on.

"What bothers me the most is that the media are pretending that these top transfers can be done with a snap of the fingers. As if 50-100 million is nothing, even in times like these," he added.
