Lothar Matthäus hails Joshua Kimmich as the best German player at the moment

Joshua Kimmich is the best German footballer at the moment, claims Lothar Matthäus.
Lothar Matthäus says he currently sees Joshua Kimmich as the best German player ahead of Bayer Leverkusen's Kai Havertz.

Matthäus believes both players have looked really impressive in 2020, but the Bayern midfielder just edges it for Germany's record cap-holder.

"Kai Havertz has certainly been sensational in the second half of the season, and so has Joshua Kimmich. If you look at the full package, I would put Joshua Kimmich first," Matthäus said in a Sky podcast.

"He may be behind the Leverkusen starlet when it comes to market value, but Kimmich has been a regular starter at Bayern for years. He's a leader and an important player for the national team. That's why I'd say he's the best German player at the moment," he added.

Kimmich has made 44 appearances for Bayern this season with five goals and 12 assists to his name.
