David Wagner: 'I'm my own biggest critic'

Schalke 04 coach David Wagner takes responsibility for his team's poor results in recent months.
After an impressive first half of the season, Schalke 04 went into a slump and ended up finishing 12th in the Bundesliga after failing to win their last 16 league games.

In an interview with Kicker, Schalke coach David Wagner says he takes responsibility for his team's poor run, but insists he can bring things back on track.

"From training to the line-up, I'm mainly responsible for the sporting situation. I'm also partly responsible for the signings we have made," Wagner said.

"I'm my own biggest critic, and I'm aware of the mistakes I have to answer for as head coach. We as a coaching team have worked through the past months and drawn our conclusions. We now know what measures we need to take in order to play football successfully again.

"Above all, we know what happened until mid-February was no accident. That's what I want, that's what we want to prove to our fans."

Wagner was appointed Schalke coach last summer.
