Wout Weghorst hints at desire to leave Wolfsburg amid Arsenal and Newcastle links

Wout Weghorst has suggested he could leave Wolfsburg amid reported interest from Arsenal and Newcastle.
Wout Weghorst says he has an agreement in place with Wolfsburg that they will sit down together if an 'exciting' offer comes in for him.

The 27-year-old, who has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle, hints that he would be prepared to move on if the right opportunity came along, telling Sport Bild:

"Nobody needs to be afraid. It's good for a club to get a lot of money back after investing in a player. I have ambitions and want to play at the highest possible level. In the past two years, I have shown that I can perform on this level and that more is possible for me."

"We have agreed that we will sit down together if something exciting comes up. But the market is strange because of the coronavirus pandemic. And I get a lot of recognition in Wolfsburg, I play an important role, both from a sporting perspective and as a person. I feel good and so does my family.

"However, it's also important for me whether VfL will do everything to win titles in the future. But I have confidence in the sporting leadership."

The Dutch striker, who scored 20 goals in 42 appearances in the 2019/20 season, is under contract until 2023 with Wolfsburg.

He joined 'Die Wölfe' from AZ Alkmaar in a €10.5 million deal back in 2018.
