Karl-Heinz Rummenigge remains optimistic that David Alaba will sign a new deal

FC Bayern boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge still believes David Alaba could stay at Allianz Arena.
Bayern München CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge remains 'cautiously optimistic' that David Alaba will sign a contract extension with the German champions.

Alaba has been stalling on an extension of his current deal, which expires next year, but Rummenigge hasn't given up hope that the 28-year-old will stay.

"I'm cautiously optimistic that we can reach an agreement," the Bayern boss told TZ on Tuesday.

Bayern are expected to hold new talks with Alaba and his representatives once the club's Champions League campaign comes to an end later this month.

On Saturday, the German champions beat Chelsea to secure a place in the quarter-finals, where they will be up against FC Barcelona on Friday.
