Yussuf Poulsen: 'We were the better team'

RB Leipzig deserved to beat Atlético Madrid in the Champions League, says Yussuf Poulsen.
Yussuf Poulsen believes RB Leipzig deserved to go through to the Champions League semi-finals against Atlético Madrid.

Speaking after RB Leipzig's impressive 2-1 victory on Thursday, which saw the club go through to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time, Poulsen told reporters:

"This is huge. There is a lot of history in this for me and the club. We put in an amazing performance today and deserved to win, because we were the better team. We were better than Atlético for almost the whole game."

RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann was pleased to see his side take advantage of their chances against a compact Atlético side.

"We didn't create many chances in the first half but we defended very well. You don't get many opportunities in the final third against Atlético. Our offensive game was the difference today; Atlético didn't have many chances and we created more," he told UEFA.com after the game.

Nagelsmann's troops are now set to take on Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

"It's normal that when you get to the next round, you want more. Tonight we're happy; tomorrow we'll start looking at Paris. That will be another difficult game, but we'll have a plan," Nagelsmann said.
