Union Berlin don't expect Max Kruse to be at 100 percent until mid-October

Max Kruse will need time to reach his top level after recovering from an ankle injury, says Union Berlin boss Oliver Ruhnert.
Union Berlin chief Oliver Ruhnert has warned that Max Kruse will need some time to get up to full speed after joining the German capital club on a free transfer from Fenerbahce.

The 32-year-old is working to get back to full fitness following an ankle injury and has so far been unable to feature in any of Union's friendly matches ahead of the upcoming season.

"We assume that Max will be at 100 percent in mid-October after the first three matchdays and the international break," Ruhnert said in an interview with Sport Bild.

According to Ruhnert, Kruse's arrival will give Union more tactical flexibility than last season, which mostly saw them use a 3-4-3 formation.

"He will make us more flexible. We were very successful with last season's system. Max gives us qualities that we didn't have in the squad before. And with this comes the option of using a different playing style," said the Union boss.
