Augsburg coach Heiko Herrlich plays down Richter rumors, says Gikiewicz will be his number one keeper

Speaking ahead of Augsburg's season opener in the DFB-Pokal on Saturday, head coach Heiko Herrlich poured cold water on rumors linking Marco Richter with a move away from the club. He also said Rafał Gikiewicz will be his first-choice goalkeeper for the new season.
FC Augsburg coach Heiko Herrlich has played down speculation about Marco Richter's future at WWK Arena.

FC Köln are understood to have made an offer for Richter, but Herrlich insists he wants to keep the 22-year-old at the club.

"He is a talented player. We want to keep him at FCA," Herrlich at the pre-match press conference ahead of Augsburg's DFB-Pokal encounter with fifth-tier side Eintracht Celle on Saturday.

The FCA coach also made it clear that new signing Rafał Gikiewicz, who has joined the club on a free transfer from Union Berlin, will be given the nod in goal at the expense of Tomas Koubek.

"Rafał Gikiewicz will be our number one. With Koubek, we have a strong replacement who is ready at all times," said Herrlich.
