Official: Schalke sign new left-back
Schalke 04 have announced the signing of 20-year-old Hamza Mendyl.
After a successful medical check, 20-year-old left-back Hamza Mendyl has agreed to join Schalke 04 on a five-year-deal, the club have announced. The transfer fee is undisclosed, but a fee of €7 million has been reported.
Schalke 04 coach Domenico Tedesco says he's very satisfied with the signing of Mendyl - a Morrocan international - who joins the Royal Blues from Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille.
"We have occupied us thoroughly with Hamza for a long time, and we are happy that we were able to sign him. He brings a lot of what te want in this position: athletics, dynamics, robustness and courage offensively," Tedesco told Schalke04.de.
Mendyl says he is looking forward to working under Tedesco.
"I'm very happy to have signed a contract with such a big club. With Domenico Tedesco, I encounter a coach known for improving players. He proved that impressively last year. I, too, would like to develop under him and help Schalke to do well in all three competitions," he said.
Mendyl made 16 appearances for Lille and has played 13 matches for Morocco.
