Leverkusen open talks with Florian Wirtz over new deal

Leverkusen want to tie Florian Wirtz down to a new long-term deal.
Bayer Leverkusen have opened negotiations with 17-year-old Florian Wirtz over a contract extension.

Wirtz has been a revelation at BayArena following his January move form FC Köln and became the youngest player to ever feature for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga when he made his debut against Werder Bremen in May at the age of 17 years and 15 days.

The 17-year-old still has two years left on his current deal, but Leverkusen want to tie him down until 2025, according to Sport Bild.

"Bayer Leverkusen are a very well-managed club. There are talks," confirmed the player's father, Hans-Joachim Wirtz.

Wirtz was recently called up to the German under-21 national team for the first time.
