Gladbach boss Max Eberl laments Denis Zakaria's continued absence

More than seven months after Denis Zakaria suffered a serious knee injury, Gladbach still have to manage without the Swiss international. "It's no secret that we miss him a lot and that he's not easy to replace," says Gladbach boss Max Eberl.
Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl has lamented the long-term absence of Denis Zakaria, who has struggled with a knee injury since March.

The Swiss midfielder was supposed to make his return to full team training during the international break, but suffered a setback in his recovery. Therefore, it will still be weeks before Zakaria will be able to make his return.

"Denis' development has been fantastic. Especially in the past season under Marco Rose, he took a very big leap forward," Eberl said in an interview with Sport Bild.

"With his dynamics, speed, aggressiveness and intense runs in behind, he is enormously important for our game. It's no secret that we miss him a lot and that he's not easy to replace."

As frustrating as his absence is, Gladbach have no intention of rushing him back.

"Of course we want him to return as soon as possible - but with the necessary care and without rushing him back. We have to be patient," said the Gladbach boss.
