Under-pressure Köln coach Markus Gisdol to stay in charge for Hertha clash

FC Köln coach Markus Gisdol has been backed to continue in his post by the club's managing director, Horst Heldt.
FC Köln managing director Horst Heldt has made it clear that Markus Gisdol will stay on as coach for Saturday's Bundesliga clash with Hertha BSC.

Gisdol's side have dropped to the relegation play-off spot following an embarrassing 5-0 defeat to Freiburg on Saturday, which was described as a 'complete failure' by Heldt.

Nevertheless, the Köln chief still has faith in Gisdol, who was appointed Köln coach in November 2019.

"Markus will be on the bench on Saturday against Hertha," Heldt emphasized to Bild before adding:

"We do what we are convinced of and stick to it as long as that's the case."

Köln sit 16th in the table, four points above 17th-placed Schalke 04.
