Mainz 05 director of sport Christian Heidel has reacted to speculation that Jean-Philippe Mateta could leave the club this month.

Olympique Marseille are said to be interested in taking signing the Frenchman on loan with an option to buy.

Heidel insists there is nothing concrete at this point, but refuses to rule out that Mateta could leave Mainz before the end of the transfer window.

"A transfer doesn't happen just because it's in the newspaper. No one has contacted us, and there are no signs of a transfer at the moment," Heidel told Bild.

"Let's wait and see, we still have a few days left," he added, referring to the fact that the transfer window will remain open for the rest of the month.

Mateta has netted 10 times in 17 games for Mainz this season.
