Leipzig's Forsberg ruled out for next two fixtures, Upamecano may be given a break

Leipzig trainer Julian Nagelsmann confirmed that his de-facto lead striker would be out for both today's Pokal fixture and the weekend encounter with Schalke.

The young trainer also weighed in on Dayot Upamecano's future and provided injury updates during a morning press round.
Swedish striker Emil Forsberg, Leipzig's frequently used solution for their lack of an in-form center-forward, has been ruled out of the team's next two fixtures with ongoing knee problems. Head-coach Julian Nagelsmann conveyed this when speaking to reporters early Tuesday. He also disclosed that lead-defender Dayot Upamecano might get a rest as well.

"Upa's had problems with his knee on and off for a few weeks," Nagelsmann told a group of journalists, "it may very well be the case that he gets a break."

With so much media attention swirling around the 22-year-old French star, the young trainer obviously couldn't avoid a few questions centering around Upamecano's future. Nagelsmann made clear that he didn't believe that all of the uncertainty surrounding the player's future would adversely affect his game.

"Naturally, one [a coach] wants clarity," Nagelsmann conceded when asked about where the pivot defender would play next season, "but there are certain contract situations that don't yield clarity until a fixed date. A coach can do nothing about that."

Nagelsmann also divulged that defender Ibrahima Konanté had not yet been able to participate in team training. Forsberg and Konaté remain on the club's longer-term injured reserve along with Benjamin Henrichs, Konrad Laimer, and the still-to-debut Dominik Szoboszlai.
