Delaney says Dortmund are too fatalistic: "We slide too quickly into thinking that a setback is a disaster"

Danish midfielder Thomas Delaney has recently found his way back into Borussia Dortmund's starting XI. The 29-year-old works a critical role as a lone fulcrum in head-coach Edin Terzic's 4-1-4-1.

During a Wednesday media roundtable, the veteran spoke on his new role and the current challenges facing the club.
While many have cause to be critical about the performance of rookie trainer Edin Terzic, midfielder Thomas Delaney indicated that he had a great deal of respect for the manner in which the new head-coach conducts his prep session.

"He's a good trainer," Delaney told a group of assembled reporters, "he communicates to us very well what the plan is and what he expects from us. I like the way he's going at the moment."

Delaney performed marvellously against Augsburg in round 19. German footballing publications accorded him top marks and he earned team-of-the-week honours on this website for his dogged box-to-box play.

The Dane took advantage of the media round to declare himself satisfied with the amount of playing time he's been receiving and added "I feel like part of the team's leadership structure."

"We have lots of players with lots and lots of talent who are short on experience," he told the reporters, "Myself, Emré Can, Marco Reus and Mats Hummels have to take some of the weight off of their shoulders because it can be very difficult at a club with such high expectations."

As for the string of disappointments the Schwarzgelben have suffered this season, Delaney chalked most of it up to a needlessly fatalistic attitude among the players.

"Our problem is that we're too impatient as a team," he noted, "We slide too quickly into thinking that a setback is a disaster. Our in-game reactions are too frequently negative. We need a more positive attitude. What's missing is a bit of composure and a 'who cares?' mentality when confronting a setback because we're strong enough [to overcome it]"
