Herbert Hainer praises Leon Goretzka, reveals Bayern want to extend his contract

Leon Goretzka has received praise from Bayern München president Herbert Hainer, who reveals talks are underway to extend the midfielder's contract.
Bayern München president Herbert Hainer has lavished praise on Leon Goretzka, admitting the Bavarians are keen on extending the midfielder's deal, which expires in 2022.

"Leon Goretzka has developed extremely well over the last 12 months. In my eyes, he has become one of the most important players for us and a symbol of our success," Hainer told Sport1.

"We want to extend his contract, but our sporting management currently has a number of contract talks pending. [Sporting director] Hasan Salihamidzic is taking care of them one by one."

Goretzka set up three goals in Bayern's 5-1 victory over FC Köln last week. In total, the 26-year-old has notched up five goals and seven assists in 23 appearances this season.
