Sport Bild: Liverpool unlikely to strike Konate deal with Leipzig

Ibrahima Konate looks likely to follow his teammate Dayot Upamecano’s footsteps out of RB Leipzig.
Konate has been one of this season’s most talked about players.

He has been linked to numerous top European clubs including Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, and now according to a report by Sport Bild, the Merseyside club will not be proceeding to sign the prodigious French talent.

In quotes picked up by UK news outlet Express, advanced talks between Liverpool & RB Leipzig have broken down after it was reported that the Reds looked set to trigger his €40m release clause.

According to the reports from Germany, Liverpool have told RB Leipzig boss Oliver Mintzlaff they wouldn’t be going ahead with a deal.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Konate said of his transfer links: “I woke up, saw my phone ringing all over the place. I just wanted to tell them: ‘Hey, I played yesterday, I’m tired leave me alone’. I don’t even look at this. There are Euros and then I return to Leipzig.”

The 21-year-old has put in remarkable performances for the east German club and looks like a hot prospect in the upcoming summer transfer window, although the rumors with Liverpool seem to have been just that, rumors.

Liverpool on the other hand, having acquired Ozan Kabak from Schalke on a loan deal, will look to make his transfer permanent.
