Report: Premier League duo want Hertha starlet

Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly both keeping an eye on Hertha BSC midfielder Arne Maier.
19-year-old Hertha BSC midfielder Arne Maier has caught interest from Arsenal and Manchester United, Sport Bild understands.

According to the German newspaper, the defensive midfielder has recently been 'intensively watched' by the Premier League duo. In February, he extended his contract which runs until 2022.

Maier has been a regular starter for Hertha this season and has played 90 minutes in all three Bundesliga games so far. The German capital club have made a strong start to the season and are fourth in the Bundesliga table with seven points.

The 19-year-old recently made his debut for the German under-21 national team as he appeared as a substitute in the games against Mexico and Ireland this month.

Apparently, Maier isn't the only Hertha player who has attracted interest from the Premier League. According to Bild, left-back Marvin Plattenhardt and striker Davie Selke are both being chased by unnamed Premier League clubs.

Plattenhardt was linked with a move to the Premier League during the transfer window in the summer, but he remained at Hertha. Selke, who has just returned from injury, is under contract until 2022 and is said to have an exit clause of €18 million.
