Philipp Max talks about his time at Bayern: 'I just didn't enjoy football so much'
Philipp Max explains why leaving Bayern München as a youth player was good for his career.
Highly-rated FC Augsburg left-back Philipp Max has talked about the difficulties he faced as a youth player at Bayern München.
Max - the son of former striker Martin Max - played for Bayern München's youth team from 2007 to 2010 where his family moved to North Rhine-Westphalia. Max joined Schalke 04 instead, and that got his career back on track.
"It was a difficult time back then, and I just didn't enjoy football so much. I didn't feel so good in private, and it was also difficult, because I was always compared to my dad. Then I tried to reorient myself," Max told Sport1 and added:
"I was pretty happy when my parents made the decision to move back to North Rhine-Westphalia where I could start from scratch again. My whole family lives there, and they supported me."
Max would eventually go on to play two games for Schalke's first team before joining Karlsruher SC in 2014. After spending a season there, the 24-year-old joined FC Augsburg.
