The win means Wolfsburg climb to the top of the table, two points clear of Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern München and SC Freiburg.
Jerome Roussillon scored the winner in the 52nd minute, firing home after Peter Gulacsi pushed a low cross from Renato Steffen into the Frenchman's feet.
In today's earlier Bundesliga game, Union Berlin beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1. The capital side were leading by two at the break thanks to goals from Niko Giesselmann and Taiwo Awoniyi before Jonas Hofmann bagged a late consolation goal.
