According to a report from Foot Mercato, now confirmed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Jerome Boateng is negotiating with Lyon to join the club as a free agent.

If an agreement is reached Boateng could be unveiled as a Lyon player today on deadline day.

The former Bayern defender is currently without a club after his contract with the German record champions expired.

He has been linked with a move to Sevilla in the past few weeks, but the Spanish side seem to have dropped their pursuit of the 76 time capped German national.

Getting Boateng on board could be vital for the backline of Peter Bosz's team, as he brings both quality and leadership to the side which could be important for the development of some of the young players in the Lyon squad.
