Ten Hag will not be new Bayern coach, Flick now a top candidate, Bild reports

Bild reports that Erik Ten Hag will not be the new Bayern Munich coach, with the German tabloid claiming that Hansi Flick is now a top candidate for the job.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been heavily linked with the Bayern Munich job in recent days.

Bayern's managing director for sport Max Eberl reportedly approached ten Hag's management about his willingness to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season, but according to Bild, it's now clear that the Dutchman will not take over the job.

Instead, former Bayern coach Hansi Flick has emerged as a serious candidate for the post, according to the report.

Flick was in charge of Bayern between 2019 and 2021, winning the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal and the Champions League before leaving to become Germany coach.

However, his time in charge of the German national team did not go according to plan, and he was relieved of his duties in September 2023.

According to Bild, Flick has two supporters in Bayern's top hierarchy in the shape of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen.

One of the main reasons for Flick's departure from Bayern in 2021 was his strained relationship with the club's then board member for sport Hasan Salihamidic, who is no longer at the club.

Flick also had problems with honorary president Uli Hoeness at the end of his tenure, but these have reportedly been resolved.
