Bundesliga promotion-relegation playoff winners VfL Bochum have completed the rumored signing of Karlsruher SC keeper Patrick Drewes. The 31-year-old was unveiled as a new signing yesterday. Drewes returns to the Revierklub he once made nine competitive appearances for between 2019 and 2021. The transfer fee was not revealed. Drewes maintains an estimated market worth of €600,000 in the latest transfermarkt listings.

Whether or not Drewes shall serve as the squad's #1 in the coming season remains to be seen. It does definitely appear to be the case that Bochum wish to part company with long-time net-minder Manuel Riemann. The latest rumors have Riemann transferring to 2. Bundesliga side Hannover 96. Bochum remain on the lookout for more assistance in net.

"We are delighted that Patrick Drewes is joining us and returning to VfL," Bochum sporting director Marc Lettau noted in a statement, "He has performed at a very high level in the second division in recent years and has always been one of the top goalkeepers there. With him, we are gaining an experienced goalkeeper who is also familiar with our environment."

"It's nice to return to familiar surroundings and see many familiar faces," the keeper himself added, "For me, the step up from the second division to the Bundesliga is one that I'm very happy about and very excited about."
