Dortmund-Real Champions League final leaves Kroos, Rüdiger, and Füllkrug late to DFB camp

Last night's confirmation of the two teams contesting the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League final will lead to at least three players reporting late to Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann's pre-European championship training camp.

Real Madrid's elimination of German giants FC Bayern München in the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League semi finals last night will at least ensure that all Bayern professionals report to Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann's pre-Euro training camp on time. The DFB team's preliminary camp is scheduled to begin on May 26th in Blankenhain, Thuringia. The German national team moves into its Euro home-base at Herzogenaurach in Bavaria on June 1st.

Two pre-tournament friendlies are then scheduled. The first pre-tournament friendly is scheduled for June 3rd against the Ukraine at the Max Morlock Stadium in Nürnberg. A second friendly is scheduled to take place against Greece on June 6th at Borussia Mönchengladbach's Borussia Park.

Real Madrid's qualification for the Champions League Final - slated for June 1st at Wembley - means that Toni Kroos and Antonio Rüdiger will be reporting to camp late. Striker Niclas Füllkrug being the only Borussia Dortmund player to earn a call up during the last round of friendlies in March means that, at present, it looks to be the case that Nagelsmann will be missing only one BVB professional.

Naturally, it's not out of the question that players like Julian Brandt, Mats Hummels, Nico Schlotterbeck might be called back to the German national team. In principle, there's enough time for capped German players such as Youssoufa Moukoko, Emré Can, Felix Nmecha, Marco Reus, and Marius Wolf to recommend themselves.

Leverkusen actors such as Jonathan Tah, Florian Wirtz, Robert Andrich, and (potentially) Jonas Hofmann will also be arriving slightly late to camp as Germany's Red Company team has a post-season title-celebration party scheduled for May 26th at the BayArena. Nagelsmann is expected to announce a provisional Euro squad in the coming weeks.
