Having played out a rather mundane 0-0 second-leg draw at home to Champions League play-off opponents Sporting CP, reporters captured the thoughts of Emre Can in the media zone.

The BVB captain kept things short and sweet, emphasising what they had achieved by reaching the last-16 and how they must take that hunger into their domestic performances.

“We didn't do more than necessary. It was a controlled progression. But we have to get this mentality into our heads that we can win a game like this even if we don't have to. We had the opportunities to do so.

"In the end, we've progressed and that's what counts. We've played a decent season in the Champions League so far, but not at all in the Bundesliga.

"We'll try to win the game at home on Saturday. We know that we have a lot to make up for in the Bundesliga this season," Can concluded.

The 31-year-old has performed well at centre-half since Niko Kovač took over and will lead Die Schwarzgelben into battle again on Saturday afternoon against 1.FC Union Berlin.
