Julian Nagelsmann warns Timo Werner against Liverpool move

RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann is trying to convince Timo Werner to stay at Red Bull Arena amid reported interest from Liverpool.
RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann has warned Timo Werner against joining Liverpool.

'The Reds' are said to be keen on bringing the RB Leipzig striker to England in the summer, but Nagelsmann is doing what he can to convince the 23-year-old to stay at Red Bull Arena.

"It would be more difficult for Timo Werner to play for Liverpool than for Leipzig. He won't get the status he has here in his first years there. That's what I tell him," Nagelsmann told Sport Bild and added:

"The guys see how we are developing and how much potential we still have. We don't let anyone, who helps us, leave defenselessly."

The likes of Dayot Upamecano and Lukas Klostermann have also been linked with moves away from Leipzig, and it's no surprise to Nagelsmann that his players are attracting interest from bigger clubs.

"That doesn't come as a shock to me. We can't plan on becoming champions every year yet. As long as we bring in young players, who want to take the next step with us, it's normal for them to get involved with bigger clubs once they're successful with us and are developing faster than we are. At least we get good money in return, which we can invest again," he said.

Werner, who's under contract until 2023, will be available for €55-60 million in the summer thanks to a clause.
