Dimitrios Grammozis has emerged as the front-runner to succeed the recently sacked Christian Gross as Schalke 04 coach.

According to Bild, Schalke are on the verge of reaching an agreement with the 42-year-old coach, who is currently without a job.

In the past, Grammozis has coached VfL Bochum's reserves and most recently SV Darmstadt from February 2019 until the summer of 2020.

Schalke have already sacked three coaches – David Wagner, Manuel Baum and Christian Gross – this season.

'The Royal Blues' are rock bottom of the Bundesliga with nine points after 23 matches.
