Rouven Schröder has been appointed new Schalke 04 sporting director, the relegated Bundesliga club said on Tuesday.

Schröder, who last worked as Mainz director of sport, will take over the responsibility from June 1.

"In Rouven, we have been able to attract an expert to S04 who has the necessary network and professional qualities in this area. His main task will be to build a new team that can successfully represent Schalke 04 in the present and the future," said Schalke head of sport and communication Peter Knäbel.

In the same statement, 'The Royal Blues' announced that Mathias Schober has been promoted to new academy manager.

"Mathias has done an outstanding job in recent years as sporting director of our youth department and has played a major role in winning over courted talent," said Knäbel.
