Nagelsmann shares thoughts on win over Netherlands: "It's deserved"

With two games still left to play, Germany booked their place in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals with a 1-0 win over the Netherlands on Monday.

Julian Nagelsmann's men pushed heavily for an opening goal in the first half, but it wasn't until the 64th minute that they were rewarded for their efforts when Jamie Leweling scored.

The Netherlands created a couple of good chances late on, but Germany held on for what Nagelsmann felt was a deserved win.

“We had a lot of control, especially in the first half. All that was missing in the first half was that we didn't score. Our pressing was good – we found solutions,” Nagelsmann said, according to UEFA.com. 

"In the second half, their change of formation made it not as easy. Our high pressing wasn't easy and we tried to defend deeper. 

"We just conceded one big chance in added time, otherwise there were no dangerous situations. So it's deserved."

The Germany coach also found praise for Jamie Leweling, who impressed and scored the winner on his international debut.

“We didn't expect Leweling to perform like that, but we know he can; we've seen it for Stuttgart in the last couple of games. A first game for the national team, it's not that easy, but he had a great game: great defensive work, in possession as well he had good solutions against the opponent. A really good debut,” he said.
