Christian Ilzer has been officially appointed as the new head coach of TSG Hoffenheim.

The 47-year-old arrives from Sturm Graz as a replacement for Pellegrino Matarazzo, who was recently relieved of his duties.

Hoffenheim managing director for sport Andreas Schicker, who worked with Ilzer at Sturm Graz, said:

"I know and appreciate Christian from our work together and I am convinced that he is the coach who is ideally suited to my vision for TSG Hoffenheim.

“His style of play stands for clarity and intensity. This fits perfectly with TSG's DNA. He has proven in recent years that he is able to play attractive football with his teams and also develop individual players.”
