Karim Onisiwo pens new Mainz deal

Karim Onisiwo has followed Leandro Barreiro in signing a new contract with Mainz.

Karim Onisiwo has inked a contract extension with Mainz 05, the Bundesliga side have announced.

The Austrian international's new deal runs until 2024.

"Watching Karim play football this second half of the season has been great fun. There was no doubt in our minds that we wanted to keep him with us for longer and continue on our path together with him," said Mainz sporting director Martin Schmidt.

"He's had a strong, continuous development over the years here in Mainz, and we're convinced that our style of play under [head coach] Bo [Svensson] can take him even further to the next level."

The 29-year-old scored two goals and made two assists in 31 games during the 2020/21 season.
