After suffering a torn patella tendon in September, Germany's first-choice goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen still has a long way to go before he can play again.

It has been suggested that he could miss the rest of the season, but it seems that the 32-year-old hasn't given up hope of returning to action before the end of the season.

According to Bild, ter Stegen has set himself the goal of being back on the pitch for FC Barcelona in April or May.

Oliver Baumann and Alexander Nübel have shared time in goal for Germany since ter Stegen suffered the injury, but the 32-year-old doesn't have to worry about losing his place, according to DFB sporting director Rudi Völler.

"Marc is our number one. We are in constant contact with him and are following his recovery," Völler told Bild.

“I was with him in Barcelona, and he knows that we are all with him and looking forward to his comeback.”
