According to Kicker, Bremen have reached an agreement with current Darmstadt 98 trainer Markus Anfang. However, the discussions between the two clubs are ongoing.

Anfang is under contract until 2022 at ‘Die Lilien’ and the impressive second half of the season saw his Darmstadt rise to 7th in the table. The two clubs are still working to agree a potential transfer fee for the move of Anfang, and according to WeserKurier the fee in question is likely to be around €250,000.

Anfang hasn’t quite had experience of promotion in the 2. Bundesliga. His Köln team were comfortably champions in the 2018/19 season, but not really his team. One week before promotion was mathematically secured, Anfang was ditched after a winless run of four matches had seen the club fail to secure promotion earlier than expected, with the interim coach Andre Pawlak describing the success as “This is Anfang’s promotion”.

‘Die Grün-Weißen’ did have Ole Werner and Peter Ziedler on the shortlist, but in the end it is likely that the Bundesliga relegated club will be coached by Markus Anfang for the 2021/22 season and Darmstadt will be looking for a new coach.
