Report: Bayern set to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder

According to reports, Bayern Munich are close to completing a deal to sign Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez.
The reports come to us from Spanish outlet Marca who say that Bayern and Atletico have agreed on a deal set to be worth €80m for the Spanish midfielder, who fell out of favour with Diego Simeone during the title-winning season for Los Colchoneros.

The 26-year-old made it clear that he wanted to leave Atleti despite winning the title, and he attracted the attention of 4 of Europe's biggest clubs namely Juventus, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

Marca suggests that the sudden lack of starts for the Spanish international was the catalyst for Saul's intentions to leave the club. Saul tallied up 22 La Liga appearances in the 2020/21 season compared to 35 in the previous season.

Saul had signed a mammoth, and quite frankly bizarre, nine-year contract extension in 2017 set to keep him in the Spanish capital until at least 2026, but that extension doesn't look like it will be honoured as Saul wishes to leave the Spanish giants.
