Leon Goretzka: 'I'm over the moon'

Leon Goretzka was 'over the moon' after his late equaliser against Hungary sent Germany through to the Euro 2020 knockout stages.
Germany finished second in Euro 2020's Group F and will face England in the last-16 after Leon Goretzka's late equaliser helped them to a 2-2 draw with Hungary on Wednesday evening.

The Bayern midfielder replaced Ilkay Gündogan just shy of the hour mark and played a key role as he made it 2-2 in the 84th minute, much to the delight of home crowd at Allianz Arena in Munich.

Speaking after the game, the 26-year-old was overjoyed with the outcome, although he admitted that the performance could have been better.

"I'm over the moon. Luckily the ball fell at my feet, and then I just put it in," Goretzka told reporters and added:

"After we made it 1-1, it was a huge mistake by us to concede again straight afterwards. We should never allow this to happen if you want to achieve something at this tournament.

"But we don't have any doubts and are full of confidence. This game was very, very difficult. There were many obstacles that were had to overcome. It's great that we managed to do so in front of our own crowd."
