Lewandowski to Real Madrid? Chain reaction of potential transfers waiting to happen?

Real Madrid’s pursuit of Kylian Mbappe is a long-term saga which might be nearing its end, but nevertheless, the Spanish giants are reportedly planning an alternative in case their efforts to lure the Paris Saint-Germain man go in vain.

This is bound to initiate a chain reaction that will encompass three leagues across Europe - La Liga, Bundesliga and Eredivisie.
The alternative in Madrid’s books is none other than Bayern Munich marksman Robert Lewandowski. The 32-year-old’s contract with the German champions expires in 2023.

The Polish striker is in the prime of his illustrious career and his transfer fee, which is around €60m, is bound to reduce as he nears the end of his contract deal.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Lewandowski has a mutual stance, regarding the prospect of fulfilling his dream of playing for Real Madrid.

This report is fueled by the presence of Pini Zahavi as Lewandowski’s agent. The Israeli agent starred in the German press last season for all the wrong reasons as Alaba’s contract talks stirred a rigmarole between the player’s representatives and the Bayern management.

On the other hand, Bayern are said to have been in touch with the representatives of versatile PSV forward Cody Gakpo, in the light of potentially losing their star goalscorer to Real Madrid.

22-year-old Gakpo, who plays for PSV Eindhoven, is an exciting young prospect who is capable of donning different roles in the final-third – as an inverted winger or an out and out striker.

According to transfermarkt, his market value lies around the €20m range. He recently made his Dutch national team debut in EURO 2020, when he came off the bench against North Macedonia in the group stages.

Well of course, this whole talk of potential transfers will gain traction only once Real Madrid, PSG and Mbappe make their final stance known.

In 2020/21, Lewandowski’s phenomenal streak saw him overtake the legendary Gerd Müller’s one-season Bundesliga goalscoring record of 40 goals, reaching 41 on the final matchday of the season.
