Official: Danso switches to Lens, Reuter laments player's shift in perspective

FC Augsburg confirmed the sale of defender Kevin Danso on Friday evening.
Germany's Fuggerstädter announced that they had reached an agreement to sell 22-year-old Kevin Danso to RC Lens, several weeks after the Austrian international initially tried to swing there transfer by walking out of Augsburg training camp.

Reports earlier in the day suggested that the FCA we're set to pocket approximately €7 million including bonuses. At this time, German broadcaster Sport1 can only confirm a base transfer fee of €3.5 million. German footballing magazine Kicker reports that the base fee is actually closer to the €5.5 million range.

"We have repeatedly praised Kevin Danso's sporting abilities," Augsburg sporting director Stefan Reuter said in a statement, "He made his leap from the juniors to the senior level here and celebrated his Bundesliga debut as an 18-year-old in an FCA jersey. We would have considered him frequently for our team in the coming season. It's a shame that he sees it differently and no longer wishes to wear the FCA tricot."

Danso spent the last two campaigns out on loan at Southhampton (2019/20) and Fortuna Düsseldorf (2020/21).

The player himself has made no comment yet.
