Kaiserslautern registered back-to-back league wins in the 2. Bundesliga with a 3-0 victory over bottom-placed Darmstadt. The visitors had the perfect opportunity to take the lead at the half-hour mark, but Lance Duijvestijn’s penalty-kick clattered off the crossbar.

Torsten Lieberknecht’s side took the lead two minutes before the break as Mario Sauer got at the end of Semih Sahin’s cutback from close range. It was a memorable weekend for Sauer’s family. A day after Leo Sauer made his Bundesliga debut for Stuttgart, the older brother scored on his home debut for Kaiserslautern.

The hosts continued to fashion the better chances, but they had to wait until the final 25 minutes to seal the victory. 19-year-old Thierry Tazemeta doubled their advantage with his second goal of the season before substitute Mergim Berisha scored with the final action of the game.

Kaiserslautern have only conceded one goal in the first four matchdays of the season as they picked up eight points. Florian Kohfeldt’s men were in the promotion race last time out, but they’re now rooted to the bottom of the standings after a third successive defeat.
