It has already been confirmed that Julian Brandt will leave Borussia Dortmund when his contract expires this summer – but his next destination remains unclear.

According to Sport Bild, Atlético Madrid are currently the frontrunners to sign Brandt, with the report stating that the La Liga club have made contact with the 30-year-old attacking midfielder and his family.

However, Brandt has decided not to hold talks with other clubs during the current season out of respect for Dortmund.

Therefore, discussions between the player and Atlético are expected to take place after Dortmund’s final Bundesliga match of the season against Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Brandt himself is said to favour a move to Spain, as his girlfriend lives there, he speaks the language and is attracted to the country’s culture.

Should he make the move, the 30-year-old could take over the role of Antoine Griezmann in the squad, with the Frenchman set to join MLS side Orlando City this summer.
