With only two matchdays remaining in the Bundesliga season, FC Augsburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach meet at the WWK Arena on Saturday in a clash between two sides still searching for a good ending to an unpredictable campaign.

Augsburg head into the weekend in the stronger position. Manuel Baum’s side have quietly put together an impressive unbeaten run in recent weeks (2 wins, 3 draws in the last 5 games) and remain within touching distance of the European places. Their gritty 3-1 victory away at Werder Bremen last week further highlighted the resilience that has become a trademark of the Fuggerstädter during the final stretch of the season.

Gladbach, meanwhile, arrive with renewed confidence after sealing Bundesliga survival thanks to a dramatic late win over Borussia Dortmund. Haris Tabaković’s late strike sparked emotional celebrations at Borussia-Park and lifted some of the pressure that had surrounded the Foals throughout the spring.

Still, consistency has been a major issue for Eugen Polanski’s men this season. Gladbach have struggled away from home and continue to look vulnerable defensively, especially with injuries and suspensions forcing adjustments at the back. Augsburg will sense an opportunity to capitalize on those weaknesses in front of their own supporters.

The reverse fixture earlier this season was one-sided, with Gladbach cruising to a 4-0 win thanks largely to a clinical display from Tabaković. That result should provide Augsburg with plenty of motivation heading into Saturday’s encounter.

One of the key battles could emerge in midfield, where Augsburg’s physical intensity and aggressive pressing have often disrupted technically stronger opponents. Baum has managed to restore structure and discipline since returning to the dugout, and his future beyond the season remains one of the club’s major talking points.

For Gladbach, much will once again depend on Tabakovic’s finishing ability and whether the visitors can cope with Augsburg’s direct approach under pressure. The Foals have shown flashes of attacking quality in recent weeks, but their inability to control matches for long periods continues to cost them points.

Given Augsburg’s recent momentum and Gladbach’s inconsistent away form, the hosts may have a slight edge heading into the contest. However, with both teams playing with less pressure after effectively securing safety, an open and entertaining game could be on the cards.

Team news

Aside from any last minute injuries, Augsburg can enjoy their whole squad being fit for the reamaining two matchdays.

Gladbach on the other hand are still without top striker Tim Kleindienst and have to do without Jens Castrop and Nico Elvedi due to their suspensions. Them missing could prove pivotal in this exciting match-up.
