After two years with FC Augsburg, Dimitrios Giannoulis has returned to his home country, Greece.

The Bundesliga club confirmed on Thursday that the 30-year-old has left the club to join PAOK FC.

“Dimi expressed his desire to return home to Greece in order to play football and be closer to his family in several open and honest discussions with the club," said FCA sporting director Benjamin Weber.

“We wanted to do our part in granting this request and were able to find a good solution for all those involved, together with PAOK. We would like to thank Dimi for his efforts over the last two seasons and wish him all the best for his future and in Greece.”

Giannoulis, who made 58 Bundesliga appearances for Augsburg, said:

“I enjoyed two incredible years at FCA, which is why this decision wasn’t easy to make. However, it was time for me to return home and to be closer to my family. I’m very grateful to the management team for allowing me to make this move and wish the club, my teammates and the fans all the best for a successful future.

"Maybe I’ll be back at the WWK-ARENA in a few months when Greece take on Germany. That would be the perfect end to my time at FCA.”
