Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl has confirmed that negotiations with Aston Villa over João Palhinha have broken down.

According to reports, Aston Villa wanted to sign the Portuguese midfielder on loan, while Bayern were insisting on a permanent transfer.

“It’s true that Aston Villa contacted us about João [Palhinha]. But we won’t reach an agreement with Aston Villa,” Eberl confirmed at a press conference on Friday.

“It simply doesn’t work because we’re not in a situation where we have to do whatever other clubs try to impose on us.”

Palhinha could still leave Bayern this summer, though, with the German champions having made it clear that they are willing to offload the 31-year-old.
