Dahoud switches allegiance back to Germany: "I would love to play for my home country."

Speaking at his official presentation on Thursday, newly-acquired Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud spoke on future international allegiances. The 28-year-old's year in Brighton and stint with the Syrian national team have been chalked off.

Dahoud called himself a "child of the Bundesliga", declared himself "delighted to be home", and even noted that - via former BVB teammate Marius Wolf - he sometimes went by the German surname "Moritz".

After a stint with the Syrian national team didn't work out, newly acquired Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud made it clear on Thursday that he would like to represent Germany once again in the future. The twice-capped German international spoke at an official SGE roll-out after the club snapped him up on a free on the final day of the transfer window last week.

"I grew up in Germany and would love to play for my home country," Dahoud noted at his introductory presser, "If I can offer up some performances and get a call up, I would be delighted."

Dahoud's prospects for playing time might open up slightly due to an injury to new summer acquisition Oscar Højlund. The 28-year-old is nevertheless still not a projected starter behind the highly effective midfield tandem of Ellyes Skhiri and Hugo Larsson. Dahoud finds himself in a similar position as with his recent loan to Stuttgart. Minutes may be at a premium.

Despite this, the former Gladbach and Dortmund professional wished to emphasize that the lack of playing time at Stuttgart didn't dissuade him from joining Eintracht. Dahoud also made it clear that his commitment to his new club was as strong as his commitment to his country. He even joked that former BVB teammate Marius Wolf had bestowed upon him the German surname "Moritz".

"I didn't think about it for long," Dahoud said of his Eintracht transfer, "I just wanted to go back to Germany. I'm a child of the Bundesliga. I've already been around the city. A big city like Frankfurt is a great place to live. I also like the cafés. I'm delighted to back and play in front of these fans."
