Füllkrug receives confirmed place on German Euro squad

Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Füllkrug was confirmed as the fifth official member of Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann's European Championship squad early Tuesday morning.

Striker Niclas Füllkrug will be - barring injury - representing the German Nationalmannschaft at the Euros this summer. The 31-year-old's nomination was confirmed early Tuesday morning on a live radio program broadcast on Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln (WDR). Füllkrug himself was a guest on the program, declaring himself "proud" to receive the call up.

Füllkrug served as the lone Dortmund representative on Nagelsmann's roster during the most recent March international break. The German Champions' League Finalists already have more than one representative set for the forthcoming tournament following confirmation that BVB defender Nico Schlotterbeck will be part of the team.

Other confirmed players include the Bayern duo of Manuel Neuer and Aleksandar Pavlovic, as well as Bayer 04 Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah. Füllkrug - along with Schlotterbeck and Real Madrid professionals Antonio Rüdiger and Toni Kroos (presumed call ups) - is one of four players who will report late to DFB camp due to their involvement in the Champions' League Final.

Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann is due to announce his full squad this coming Thursday at 13:00. Nagelsmann has indicated in statements that he only wishes to nominate 23 players despite the fact that current UEFA regulations permit him to field a 26-man-roster. The roster can be changed right up until the week preceding the tournament.
