After having an initial offer for Exequiel Palacios rejected, Ipswich Town have now submitted a fresh bid for the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer market insider adds that the newly-promoted Premier League outfit are “optimistic” of sealing the deal “in the next few hours”.

Nothing has been agreed between the clubs yet, but Ipswich's pursuit is “on track”, according to Romano.

The Athletic’s Seb Stafford-Bloor, however, tells a different story, reporting that Ipswich are yet to make a second offer as they consider other options in the market.

Palacios is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League after five and a half years with Leverkusen.

The Argentina international is under contract with Die Werkself until 2030, putting the Bundesliga side in a strong negotiating position.

Update (13:28 CEST): According to German football publication Kicker, Leverkusen have rejected Ipswich's second offer for Palacios.
