It was a landmark day for Jamal Musiala in more ways than one when Bayern Munich secured a 4-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 23-year-old scored his first goal of the season from a penalty kick with Harry Kane’s absence handing him the opportunity.

"It was either me or Jo (Kimmich),” said Musiala regarding the penalty-kick incident. “Nico (Jackson) also asked for it. But, in the end, it was decided that I would take it. I'm happy I took the chance to score."

Following Julian Nagelsmann’s confirmation that he’ll be back in Germany’s squad for friendly games at the end of the month, Musiala played the entire game for the first time this season. "It feels good. It was my third start, and my first time finishing 90 minutes. I'm happy. I can get back into rhythm this way."

Lastly, the attacking midfielder also spoke about the feeling of wearing Bayern’s captain armband for the first time, although it was only for a few minutes after Joshua Kimmich was taken off. “I'm not sure why Josh (Kimmich) gave it to me. I thought it would be Leon (Goretzka) because he's older. But I'm happy. It's a big honour to wear the armband at such a big club.”
