FC Nürnberg have announced the signing of Robin Knoche on a free transfer.

The 2. Bundesliga club did not disclose the length of the contract for the 32-year-old centre-back.

"The people in charge made a lot of effort for me, the talks were characterized by great mutual appreciation right from the start," said Knoche, who spent the last four years at Union Berlin.

"I made a conscious decision to take this step, that's my credo when it comes to changing clubs."

Nürnberg sporting CEO Joti Chatzialexiou added that Knoche turned down offers from the Bundesliga to join the club.

"We are very proud and at the same time happy that Robin chose Nürnberg despite other offers from the Bundesliga.

“His footballing skills are undisputed, he has experience in the Bundesliga and in international competitions.”

"Over the years he has developed into a natural leader who will now be an important part of our axis. Our entire team will benefit enormously," he said.
