Report: Leipzig win race for Schalke prodigy

RB Leipzig appear to have prevailed in the race to sign Schalke 04's Assan Ouedraogo.

The transfer saga surrounding Schalke 04 wonderkid Assan Ouedraogo has apparently come to an end.

According to Sky Germany, RB Leipzig have won the race to sign the 18-year-old, who had been linked with a long list of Bundesliga clubs.

With Ouedraogo having agreed personal terms with Leipzig, the Bundesliga outfit will now activate his €10 million release clause.

Whether the 18-year-old will play a role in the Leipzig first team next season or go out on loan is currently unclear.

The central midfielder's father previously revealed that a move to Bayern had fallen through.

“Unfortunately, there are a lot of false reports circulating about Assan. The fact is that there was never a commitment from Assan and us to FC Bayern, even though we had a well-paid contract from FC Bayern that was ready to be signed months ago,” he said.

“The idea and the prospects were more important to us than Bayern's financial possibilities. We were aware of Bayern's current situation and of course followed it closely. Bayern have now informed us openly and honestly that they won't be signing Assan this summer for various reasons.”

Ouedraogo scored three goals and provided two assists in 17 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga for Schalke last season.
